Online Coaching vs Personal Training: Which Should You Choose?
An honest comparison of online coaching and in-person personal training: cost, accountability, technique coaching, flexibility and who each option suits.

Both options can work extremely well. They fail for different reasons, so the right choice depends less on your goal and more on how you operate.
What in-person coaching does better
- Immediate technical correction, rep by rep
- A booked appointment you are far less likely to skip
- Faster progress on technically demanding lifts
- Easier to adjust on the day when you turn up tired or sore
What online coaching does better
- Trains around shift work, travel and school runs
- Covers your whole week, not just the hours you are with a coach
- Usually better value per month of coaching
- Builds independence — you learn to run your own training
The honest trade-off
Online coaching asks more of you. You have to log sessions, film working sets and check in honestly. If you do that, the feedback loop is excellent — video can be slowed down and compared across weeks in a way a live session cannot. If you will not do it, in-person coaching is the better investment.
Choose in-person if
- You are new to lifting and want hands-on technique coaching
- You know you need a fixed appointment to show up
- You live close enough to train consistently in Waterford
Choose online if
- Your schedule changes week to week
- You already train and want better structure
- You are outside Waterford or train in a club gym
Plenty of clients end up combining the two: online programming for the bulk of the work, with occasional in-person sessions to sharpen technique. If you are unsure, say so on the application form and we will work it out together.
